PACKMAN POSTS PERSONAL BEST TIMES AT SUMMERNATIONALS

Steve Packman and the SP Racing team have continued their recent exponential improvements in their Top Doorslammer at Round 4 of the ANDRA Championship series at the Western Sydney International Dragway over the weekend (15^th–16^th February).

Packman managed to post a personal best 6.19 second pass at a staggering 239.91 mph (386.10 kph) in an untidy run, showing that there is still plenty more left in the car.

After struggling a little in early qualifying with 3000 horsepower Ford Falcon drifting out of the groove, he was able to nail the well deserved times in the ‘B’ quarter-final against team mate Kath Stevens, who subsequently set the World Record as the first female in history to drive a ‘doored’ car down the quarter mile strip in 5 seconds in the other lane.

“I really had to man handle the car during qualifying with a couple of wild rides but I was still able to post some respectable numbers,” Packman said.

“I then lined up alongside Kath (Stevens) in my quarter-final match up which was always going to be tough as we have identical cars with identical setups.”

“She really nailed it though and despite my big mph, I wasn’t able to run her down in the top end of the race track.

“The results at the Summernationals have really showed that our recent testing and research and development are beginning to pay off in a big way though with myself and Kath (Stevens) both running personal best Elapsed Times and mph’s, and Brett (Stevens) also running a PB mph in his Doorslammer.”

“I now know what it takes to run a 5 second pass and with good conditions in Perth in two weeks time, that is my aim.”

The SP Racing team will next be on track in the ANDRA Championship Drag Racing series at the Westernationals at the Perth Motorplex from the 1^st-2^nd March, 2008.
