MEDIA RELEASE 22nd February, 2008 WORLD RECORD HOLDER KATH STEVENS ON HUNT FOR ANOTHER ‘5’ IN PERTH
Kath created history last week by becoming the first ever women to run a 5 second quarter mile pass in a ‘doored’ car when she laid down a stunning 5.96 Elapsed Time. With over 3000 horsepower at the wheels of her Jack Daniel’s Racing BF Ford Falcon, she is confident that the team’s 18 months of research and development into the state-of-the-art Brett Stevens Racing machines will result in regular benchmark performances, with the initial focus now on backing up Sydney’s results in Perth. “It was an incredible ride that seemed to happen so easily once we got everything to fall into place – it’s just a buzz to run that quick,” Kath Stevens said
“But it is now time to focus on the future and we have one major goal for the Westernationals which is back up our performances at the Perth Motorplex.” “Before the Summernationals my previous personal best ET (Elapsed Time) was from Perth as the track and weather conditions are nearly always ideal for Drag Racing.” “And with myself, Brett (Stevens) and Steve Packman all running the same combinations and all looking for the next ‘5’, it will definitely be an exciting event for the fans.” Adding the Top Doorslammers, the Brett Stevens Racing team will also be contesting the Top Bike category with their series leading Jack Daniel’s Racing Nitro Harley’s. Team riders Troy McLean and Brett Stevens are currently sitting in the first and second positions respectively in the ANDRA Championship, but have a number of competitors breathing down their necks on the points table. “Our Jack Daniel’s Racing bikes probably have the consistency edge over the field and are the 2 quickest Harley’s in the Southern Hemisphere, so we definitely have the goods to go on and win the Championship,” Brett Stevens said. “But there are a lot of other fast bikes and good riders out there that can run the numbers to win as well.” “Athol Williams from New Zealand showed that he is now a Championship threat with a great event in Sydney last time out, and Perth local Ian Ashelford also has his bike running really well too.” “We will just be focusing on having our machines running at the top of their game and hopefully we should have enough to extend our Championship lead.” WESTERNATIONALS DETAILS Location Perth Motorplex Cnr Anketell & Rockingham Roads Schedule Saturday 1st March Spectator Gates open: 11:00am Qualifying: 11:00am-10:00pm (Top Doorslammer & Top Bike 6:00pm, 8:00pm & 10:00pm) Sunday 2nd March Spectator Gates open: 11:00am Qualifying: 11:00am-2:00pm Eliminations: 2:00pm-10:00pm (Top Doorslammer & Top Bike 6:00pm, 8:00pm & 10:00pm) Ticketing General Admission (G.A.)
